Too beautiful to find work? Finally there’s a job site for you

Just in case there’s not enough discrimination in the workplace, dating site Beautifulpeople.com has branched off into employment, launching a database of exclusively “beautiful” job seekers for employers who only want to hire attractive people.

BeautifulPeople, which bills itself as “an exclusively beautiful community” launched its employment website on Monday and it’s certainly opening itself up to controversy.

The company told Mashable last week that its employment feature is intended for employers who “want to hire good looking staff”. After all, “an attractive face is always a great first impression for any business.”

To be considered for the BeautifulPeople job site, individuals must pass the “elite entry requirements”, which include submitting a headshot that will be rated by existing members of the opposite sex — a process which the company calls “fair and democratic”. If deemed beautiful enough to continue, job seekers will be able to network among “the most attractive people locally and from around the globe”.

The site’s creators believe the new service is filling a necessary niche because, “numerous studies have shown consumers tend to respond more positively and are more receptive to attractive people”. Sounds like a good justification to the HR department then.

“An honest employer will tell you that it pays to hire good-looking staff,” Greg Hodge, managing director of BeautifulPeople, told The Telegraph. “Attractive people tend to make a better first impression on clients, win more business and earn more.”

Although it’s not clear whether any “honest employers” will want to actually align themselves with a site that could have the potential to open them up to consumer backlash, we can only imagine there’s one woman getting her resume ready.
