How Victoria Beckham became UK’s Entrepreneur of the Year

Posh Spice has come a long way since spicing up our lives in the 90s.

Yesterday, Victoria Beckham was named UK’s top entrepreneur by Management Today magazine.

The award comes after the turnover of the former Spice Girl’s fashion label, Victoria Beckham, has risen from £1 million to £30 million in just five years – a 2900% increase.

The mother of four beat out other top entrepreneurs including Boohoo.com’s Mahmud Kamani, AO World’s John Roberts and Dyson founder Sir James Dyson.

The 40-year-old singer turned fashion designer now employs 100 staff. Just five years ago, she only had 3 employees on her books.

Posh Spice has overtaken her football-playing husband, David Beckham’s net worth – Her current wealth is estimated at £210 million, with David only worth a reported £165million in 2013. Not to mention her worth compared to the other four members of the spice girls.

Of course, there are many doubting her validity as the top entrepreneur, claiming she only got the top spot due to her famous husband or celebrity status. However, the doubters cannot argue with the figures she has achieved.

Editor of Management Today magazine, Matthew Gwyther said: “She’s got a real business, some design talent and some business nous. She gets a lot of stick for being a celeb fashionista but I don’t think that’s fair.

“She has built something real out of her own celebrity which is quite a contemporary story. She deserves to be celebrated.”

Her brand is known for its trendy outfits and accessories. A sleek, form fitting dress from the current pre-spring-summer 2015 collection will set you back almost £2 000. Prices start at £150 for a key ring – she’s clearly still posh.

Last month she opened her first stand-alone boutique in London’s Mayfair. Her designs have been seen on celebrities such as Gwenyth Paltrow and Beyoncé.

Alongside Beckham, 14 other female entrepreneurs who lead a company themselves or jointly, made it on to the Top 100 list. Two other women were included in the top 10 alone – Bet365’s Denise Coates and head of pharmaceutical company, Auden McKenzie’s Meeta Patel.

From being named Britain’s most successful pop group of all time, to Britain’s Top Entrepreneur, Beckham is a role model for all aspiring female entrepreneurs. There’s no way she’ll be ‘stopping right now’ any time soon.
