Tedx is all about sharing ideas worth spreading. And as the head of UN Women Australia, Julie McKay knows the importance of speaking out about gender inequality.
Presenting at Tedx Canberra recently, Mckay spoke about the issue of equitable treatment of women in Australia. According to Mckay, gender equality might be the greatest leadership challenge in this country
The numbers speak for themselves:
“Our daughters will earn $1 million less than our sons, our mothers in this country are 50% more likely to live in poverty in retirement, and our sisters are more likely to be paid 17.5% less than our brothers.”
But she doesn’t believe that as a community, we have given these issues a lot of thought. She says that individuals should do more to pressure their organisations for gender equality.
