Tanya Plibersek is the current Labor member for the seat of Sydney.


Plibersek was first elected to parliament in 1998 and is currently the Shadow Minister for Education and Shadow Minister for Women.

She is one of the most recognisable faces in the current Labor party.


Before politics, Plibersek studied Communications at UTS and worked in the Domestic Violence Unit of the NSW Government.

She also has a Master of Politics and Public Policy.


She has previously held the portfolios of housing, the status of women, human services, health and social inclusion, while part of the Rudd and Gillard Labor governments.
