‘Me time’ matters: 5 ways to get the most out of it

Anyone who flies frequently will know the safety demonstration advice about putting on “your oxygen mask first” before attempting to help anyone else.

Author and happiness coach Domonique Bertolucci believes it’s advice that time-poor women more generally could take on too.

She believes many of us spend so much time dealing with the needs of others that we forget one important thing — that looking after ourselves is the first step to successfully helping those who need us.

Bertolucci believes finding more ‘me time’, and making the most of the hours that can be sourced, will ultimately help. ‘Me time’ does not come via the hours we spend working, instead of looking after the kids or managing the household. Nor can we count ‘me time’ as the time we spend with children. ‘Me time’ is just that: minutes, hours and even days that are all about you.

Bertolucci says there are five key strategies for finding, and making the most of ‘me time’ — all of which she’ll expand on via a free, 30 minute webinar with Women’s Agenda at 3pm Wednesday afternoon (11 March).

She’ll explain how to:

Get out of you own way
Let go of the guilt
Work out what your needs actually are, and prioritise them
Start on really taking care of yourself
And identify ‘happy triggers’ that will keep you positive.

Bertolucci’s advice has been heard or read by more than 10 million people internationally — including by CEOs, entrepreneurs and celebrities. Her latest book, The Kindness Pact was released earlier this year.
