Kerrie McCallum has just been appointed Editor-in-chief of Sunday magazine, a role she will take up in October. Originally a journalist, Kerrie has written for a number of Australian magazines and newspapers, including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, The Australian and The Sydney Morning Herald. In 2009 Kerrie launched InStyle’s Women of Style awards to celebrate Australia’s most inspiring female talent across a range of disciplines. Kerrie is also a mother.
Growing up, what kind of career did you want to pursue?
Archaeologist/hairdresser/policewoman…. Then journalist!
Who is most surprised by your achievements?
Definitely me. I didn’t quite think I’d do everything I have.
How have women helped shape your success to date?
I’ve loved all the editors (all women) I’ve worked for and they’ve given me every opportunity.
Who inspires you?
My kids.
Who do you regard as your mentor?
All the editors and publishers I’ve worked for I still regard as mentors in different ways.
What qualities do you most admire in a female colleague?
Honesty, commitment, creativity, open to change and willing to do what it takes to get the best result.
You are a role model for women, how do you think you can assist in their success?
Ensuring you never hold someone back, even if the end result doesn’t serve your purpose.
What is the best path to success in your field of endeavor?
Work hard, innovate, move with change, and remain open-minded at all times.

Lying in bed with my kids and hubby in the morning.
